In a recent letter to the Indian Springs Campmeeting Family, President Steve Luce made this important announcement:
Dear Indian Springs Campmeeting Family:
The Board of Trustees met on May 16, 2020, via Zoom, and made an exceedingly difficult decision. We considered various scenarios and risks facing our upcoming campmeeting in light of Covid-19:
For the health and safety of our Indian Springs camp family, the best decision is to not have campmeeting this year.
The Board prayerfully reviewed the ramifications of the Covid virus on all campmeeting functions. Our deliberations also included guidelines from the State of Georgia. So many restrictions evolved that to proceed, “Campmeeting simply would not have been campmeeting.”
- Ministries and worship would have to function at reduced capacity.
- Most of our lodging would be closed.
- The Cafeteria and Snackateria could not offer food service and hospitality.
- The constant tasks of sanitation in certain areas would be challenging.
The 6-foot distancing requirements compromised all our functions. In addition, we needed to consider the medical risks to our 60-year-old-and-over attendees and persons with pre-existing conditions. The trustees have acted responsibly in what we believe is the best interest for the camp. We would not wish to put our loved ones in peril.
As a Board we acknowledge that not attending campmeeting will be a great loss in our holiness journey. The disruption to our 130-year-old tradition does not diminish our commitment to our ministries and messages as a Wesleyan holiness campmeeting.
We have already begun to look toward Campmeeting 2021. The children’s, youth and missions programs will proceed next year, and our lodging, food services and gathering places will be ready. Our evangelists and Bible teacher scheduled for this year have been rescheduled for 2023.
We appreciate your love and support of Indian Springs Holiness Campmeeting, and your commitment to our long-term ability to continue our mission in years to come. We pray the virus will be defeated in all our states and look forward to being together for Campmeeting 2021.
Blessings, Steve Luce, President
