Dr. David Grout

Dr. David Grout, our veteran and well-loved song leader, returns to Indian Springs this year. David’s first time to attend Indian Springs was in 1979 as part of a quartet from Asbury College. His ministry is unique in that it encompasses both a pastoral ministry as well as a music ministry.

Dr. Grout grew up in a Methodist parsonage along the Texas/Mexico border and is fluent in Spanish. He started Spanish speaking congregations in Wilmore and Bowling Green, KY, after he graduated from Asbury College in 1980. He later received his Masters of Divinity and his Doctor of Ministry degree at Asbury Theological Seminary.

His original career path was music education and his early professional experiences combined both music ministry and youth ministry. He is presently the pastor of Christ United Methodist in Bowling Green, KY.

Dr. Grout appreciates being affiliated with the other fine musicians of Indian Springs. He relates that “Indian Springs has been very influential in my personal and spiritual development. God has used Indian Springs in many ways in my family’s lives.”

Dr. Grout has an unusual gift for incorporating the talents of others in the worship ministry of the camp. He says, “Although I am a worshipper in the service, I always must remember that my first role is to lead the congregation in worship.” He inspires people to ‘sing their theology’ through the greatest of both classic and contemporary holiness hymns.

Dr. Grout’s wife, Pam, is also an Asbury alumnae, and they have a teenage son. Along with his pastoral responsibilities in Bowling Green, David enjoys being part of the Choral Society associated with Western Kentucky University. The Grouts enjoy attending Indian Springs every summer, even when they are not involved wit the music ministry, because their son participates in the camp’s dynamic Youth Ministry.
