Dr. David Grout
Music Director

Dr. Grout

Dr. David Grout, our verteran and well-loved song leader, returns to Indian Springs. This marks over a decade of service to our camp in atlernate years. Dr. Grout's experience encompasses both a pastoral ministry as well as a music ministry.

He graduated from Asbury College in 1980, and received his Masters of Divinity in 1988 from Asbury Theological Seminary. Subsequently, he completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at Asbury Seminary in 1999.

Dr. Grout's original career path was music education and his early professional experiences combined both music ministry and youth ministry. He served as pastor to United Methodist Churches in Texas and Kentucky, including a term at the First United Methodist Church in Wilmore, where Asbury is located. He is presently Superintendent of the Bowling Green, Kentucky, District of the United Methodist Church.

He appreciates being affiliated with the other fine musicians of Indian Springs, especially Rev. Terry Lowe (organ) and Mrs. Ruth AnnKramer (piano). He relates that "Indian Springs has been very influential in my personal and spiritual development. God has used Indian Springs in many ways in my family's lives."

Dr. Grout has an unusual gift for incorporating the talents of others in the worship ministry of the camp. He says, "though I am a worshipper in the service, I always must remember that my role is first to lead the congregation in worship." In this he demonstrates matchless ability to inspire the people to 'sing their theology," through the greatest of both classic and contemporary holiness hymns.

Dr. Grout's wife, Pam, is also an Asbury alumni, and they have a teenage son. They enjoy attending Indian Springs every summer, even when they are not involved with the music ministry, because their son enjoys and participates in the camp's vital Youth Ministry.
