Thane and Laura Ury (2009)
Serving OMS International in Hong Kong
Thane and Laura Ury joined OMS International in 2004, appointed as missionaries to serve in Hong Kong. Thane grew up as a “missionary kid” in Taiwan, and in the mid-80’s, he and Laura pastured at the Chinese United Methodist Church in Chinatown, New York.
Their unique ministry in Hong Kong brought together 15 years experience living in Asia, their knowledge of Mandarin and service in Chinatown. The Ury’s believe that there is a wonderful correlation of God opening up doors which match one’s preparedness.
Thane attended Asbury College, Asbury Theological Seminary and Andrew University. He taught at Bethel College for 15 years, as well as taught in adjunct positions in Asia, Romania, Nigeria and Trinidad. He is a frequent speaker at men’s church and youth retreats.
Laura grew up as the child of Salvation Army officers and attended Asbury College. She taught art for three years at Bethel College and has illustrated three published books. She has given private art lessons for many years. Over the years, she has been heavily involved in women’s and children’s ministries.
Dr. Ury teaches theology and trains Chinese pastors at OMS’s United Wesleyan Graduate Institute in Hong Kong. Their ministry is vital in preparing disciple makers for the Hong Kong of tomorrow.
The Urys have four children, ranging from middle school to college age.
